Getting Started with R-THYM

System Requirements & Best Practices

R-THYM is a next-generation Digital Twin platform that runs computationally intensive hydraulic, energy, and transient physics entirely within your web browser.

Extended Period Simulation (EPS) uses the EPANET engine in the page. Method of Characteristics (MOC) surge analysis runs in a dedicated Web Worker as compiled WebAssembly. The schematic itself is an interactive SVG canvas. Because the physics and the live schematic both run locally, your browser and hardware setup play an important role in ensuring a smooth experience.

Recommended Browsers

For the best performance and maximum compatibility, we recommend using the latest desktop versions of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome (Highly Recommended)
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox

(Note: Safari and mobile/tablet browsers are not officially supported for building and running complex transient models at this time.)

Enabling Hardware Acceleration

To keep the canvas, charts, and real-time transient animations smooth, Hardware Acceleration must be enabled in your browser. This also helps WebAssembly use the GPU/CPU path your browser expects.

  • Chrome / Edge: Go to Settings > System > Ensure "Use hardware acceleration when available" is toggled ON.
  • Firefox: Go to Settings > General > Performance > Ensure "Use recommended performance settings" is checked (which enables hardware acceleration by default).

Navigation & Peripherals

R-THYM features a CAD-like interactive canvas that allows you to draw, pan, and zoom across water and energy networks.

While a laptop trackpad will work for basic viewing, we strongly recommend using a standard computer mouse with a scroll wheel when building models:

  • Scroll Wheel: Instantly zoom in and out of your network to inspect fine details or view the macroscopic system.
  • Left-Click Drag or Middle-Click Drag: Pan across the workspace. (Right-click opens the context menu and does not pan.)
  • Zoom Controls: Use the on-canvas +, , and Fit buttons, or the zoom percentage readout, to jump to a working scale.

Account Tiers & Capabilities

R-THYM scales with your engineering needs. Start with the free Community tier or upgrade to unlock unlimited capacity. All tiers share the same EPS hydraulic and energy engines in the browser. Transient (MOC / surge) analysis is reserved for Premium.

Community — $0 / month Perfect for students, learning, and evaluating the R-THYM environment.

  • Active Projects: Up to 2 active models
  • Model Size: Maximum 20 network objects per model
  • Core Engine: Full access to EPS solver
  • Documentation: Full user manual and in-app feedback

Professional — $19 / month (includes AI Co-pilot) Build digital twin simulations of energy and water systems of any size and configuration, with context-aware AI assistance included.

  • Unlimited Projects: Build, save, and manage as many models as you need
